An old-world flavor gets a new twist with these tender cabbage rolls stuffed with Regular Flavor Jimmy Dean® Pork Sausage and drenched in tangy tomato sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 pkg. Regular Flavor Jimmy Dean® Pork Sausage
- 1 3-lb. head green cabbage
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup milk or water
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1-1/2 cups instant or quick cooking rice
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 can (15 oz.) tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons chopped parsley (optional)
Directions
Boil 4 quarts of water in a large stockpot. Slice stem from bottom of cabbage, deep enough to cut connection between core and outer leaves. Use tongs to dip entire head of cabbage in boiling water for 30-45 seconds to soften outer leaves. Rinse briefly under cool water; remove 2 or 3 leaves. Repeat process, removing a total of 8 leaves. Slice off raised portion of the main vein of each leaf to create a flat surface. Preheat oven to 350 F. In a large bowl, combine uncooked sausage with onion, Worcestershire sauce, milk or water, garlic powder, egg, rice, and seasonings; mix thoroughly. Place 1/2 cup of sausage mixture in center of each cabbage leaf; fold in edges of leaves and roll up. Place rolls seam-side down in a lightly greased casserole or roasting pan. Pour tomato sauce over rolls, cover with lid or foil and bake 1 hour. Transfer rolls to a serving platter and top with sauce. Garnish with parsley if desired.
