DELICIOUSLY SIMPLE RECIPES.

Sausage Pinwheels

Think pigs-in-a-blanket but fancier. Add in bell peppers and green onions for a little extra flavor in this classic appetizer recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose baking mix
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup butter or margarine, melted
  • 1 pkg. Jimmy Dean® Regular Flavor Pork Sausage Roll
  • ½ cup finely chopped red bell pepper
  • 4 green onions, finely chopped

Directions

1. Stir baking mix, milk and butter in large bowl just until mixture forms soft dough that pulls away from side of bowl; cover. Refrigerate 30 minutes or until chilled enough to easily be handled.

2. Place half of the dough on lightly floured surface. Roll into 10x7-inch rectangle with lightly floured rolling pin. Spread half of the uncooked sausage evenly over dough to within ½ inch of edges; top with half each of the red pepper and onions. Starting at one long side, roll dough into log. Repeat with remaining dough. Wrap logs individually in foil. Freeze 1 hour or until firm.

3. Preheat oven to 400°F. Cut each log into 24 slices; place on lightly greased baking sheets. Bake 16-18 minutes or until sausage is thoroughly cooked and crusts are golden brown. Serve warm.

Cook’s Tips: Logs can be stored in freezer up to 1 month. When ready to serve, refrigerate logs just until thawed enough to slice, then slice and bake as directed. For a spicier flavor, substitute finely chopped seeded jalapenó peppers for the onions.
